KENNIN-JI, the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, was founded in 1202. It is located in the famous Gion section of Higashiyama.
There are 5 or 6 gardens in various parts of the temple complex. Nearby is the recently
re-named Shiramine no Misasagi (Imperial Mausoleum) of Japan's 75th emperor, Sutoku.
