Daitoku-ji is one of Kyoto's largest temple complexes. There are 6 main buildings and 24 sub-temples. Most of the sub-temples are open only on special days or seasons. Although many of them have lovely gardens, just a few permit photography. I had occasion to photograph two of the nicest, Ryogen-in and Zuiho-in.
Zuiho-in was founded in 1546 by Otomo. He converted to Christianity and one garden in this temple is named the Garden of the Cross because the rocks form a cross on the sand.
Ryogen-in, built in 1502, is one of the oldest temples at Daitoku-ji.
