Fushimi Inari Shrine has a 1300 year history. The first shrine structures were built in 711 on a hill in southwestern Kyoto, but they were re-located in 816 The main shrine structure was built in 1499. This is the main shrine of about 40,000 Inari shrines in Japan.
There are said to be as many as 10,000 colorful red-orange torii on the hillside.
